Submission Guidelines 2022-2023

Guidelines for Advertising Research Projects to NASAP Members

1. The person requesting the participation is a current NASAP member (as confirmed by the NASAP Executive Director or other responsible party).
2. The project is directly linked to Adlerian psychology, its theory, and applications (as described in the approved study abstract).
3. The project has received IRB approval from the institution or been approved tentatively (pending the agreement from NASAP or other recruitment sites) NASAP should receive and retain the following: the study approved title and abstract, the name of the institution that sponsors the study; a copy of the approval letter from the IRB and all appendixes, specifically the recruitment flyer, and the request letter/statement from the researcher(s). This letter must explain how Adlerian psychology is directly linked and/or the focus or foundation for the study. *If the IRB approval is pending until the site(s) agreement to recruit, that needs to be indicated in the request.

Academic Submissions

All submissions are due on the 15th of the month prior to publication. Please expect that we will ask you to make edits on your piece, or will ask for permission to publish the work with our edits, however minimal. This is a collaborative process that requires patience, as our editorial team is run by volunteers.

The length of your submission should be 750 words or less, submitted in Word or Google Doc format (not pdf. or text in body of an email). In the event that your submission is greater than 750 words, the editorial committee will review the document and your submission may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Very few works over 1,000 words will be considered for the newslettter. We may turn long works into a PDF attachment that readers can choose to click on or not, with a brief synopsis on the website.

You must follow APA (7th edition) style, including but not limited to citations. It is unethical to use external sources without properly citing their origination.
Here are a few links to brush up on the 7th edition changes:

If you need help with APA 7, we may be able to match you with a mentor in the Psychology field, (especially if you are not in that field yourself). This is based on mentor availability. Please account for any extra time that may be necessary for the turnaround of their feedback before the publishing deadline, (the 1st of each month).

You may choose whether to include a photo with your submission. This can be a professional photo of yourself or an image you own the copyright to. In the event you do not include a photo, the editorial committee may choose an image to accompany your submission. Image specifications for headshots are the same as Image Specifications below.

Please note that the editorial committee will review the submissions and determine selections for each issue. A committee member will notify you if your submission is chosen unless you are a regular column contributor. Revisions will be requested by an Editorial Team member as needed and we will require you to make those changes within a designated time frame in order to be considered for publication.

It is up to the discretion of the Editorial Team whether regular columns will be approved. Please respect that we consider multiple perspectives and do not take our decisions lightly. We work very hard to try to uphold the standards of the industry in our work, and we encourage you to try to take feedback in a respectful manner. Egregiously disrespectful communication may not receive a reply.

Creative Submissions

The length of your creative writing submission should be 500 words or less, (if applicable). In the event that your submission is greater than 500 words, the editorial committee will review the document and your submission may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Other forms of creativity are welcome such as photography, podcasts, YouTube videos, artistic expressions such as drawings, paintings, music, and poetry. If these expressions have an origin that needs citing, please remain ethical and cite references in APA 7th edition style with your submission.
In summary, please give credit where credit is due.

All Submissions

  • Please expect edits. Very few authors submit work [anywhere] that couldn’t benefit from another pair of eyes. Even our most esteemed, professional elders sometimes miss a typo here and there. Try to remain open to feedback.

  • Please reduce special formatting, such as: colorful lettering, ALL CAPS WORDS, Underlined text, Bolded items, Italicized items, and center-justified text. These are not APA style.

  • Please remove Headers, Footers, and page numbers from your documents.

  • Google Docs are preferred over Word/.docx because we can easily send you our edits to approve with Track Changes. If you don’t know how to use Google Docs, it’s okay, but know it may take longer to go back and forth.

  • If you decline our edits multiple times, we will have to reconsider publishing your work.

  • No footnotes are allowed in APA 7

  • No embedded images or logos (instead attach these to the email)

  • Please use only one font. Times New Roman 12-pt and Georgia 11-pt are APA approved as accessible

  • Please include a photograph of yourself if possible

  • Please cite the creator of any images you submit

  • APA style also asks that authors not make unsubstantiated claims, e.g., “all people love napping during the day!”

  • ALL quotes MUST be cited, including references to the Bible, song lyrics, or general literary mentions. We will not be able to generate citations for all of our contributors every month, nor is this our role. This may preclude your work from being published and we’d truly hate for that to be the reason. Consider whether the reference is necessary if you feel ambivalent about making a citation for some reason.

  • MUST be directly related to Adlerian theory.
